Edit: just bought two more, and had one fail. It turns out that Cisco won’t honor their manufacturer warranty for items bought through Amazon, and Amazon only gives a 30 day warranty, and this item failed outside of that window.Amazon was nice enough to refund it this one time, but that isn’t their usual practice. So, I guess I won’t buy any more Cisco items from Amazon.Too bad.I really like the SPA series.

I configured both to my VoIP service, so in case one fails, I can quickly switch over to the other.
I noticed that I couldn’t access the SPA122’s web interface through the LAN. I had to connect a PC directly to the ATA’s ethernet port to configure it. That’s in the user guide, so "Read The Fine Manual" applies. You can’t access it through the LAN until you change the default passwords. That’s a good thing security-wise.
it’s a good idea to back up your configurations, which are found in the administrative section of the web interface, documenting your passwords and settings, and storing all on a USB thumb drive in case you need them.

1) The quick start guide should have made it clear that you MUST connect to the LAN port. Page 5 Step 1 says you CAN connect to the LAN port, which implies that you can connect to the WAN port as well. The WAN port won’t work until you get in via the LAN port and enable administration on the WAN port. So you must start with the LAN port.
2) The included Ethernet cable was bad, but since I couldn’t get the browser working on the WAN port it took me a while to realize that I had two problems instead of one.
Once I discovered I had to use the LAN port and substituted a good cable the browser connected just fine. I enabled the browser for the WAN port and all is good. I called the VOIP company I’m using and they gave me the configuration and up it came. So now I’m happy, but annoyed that it was so hard to get going.
I especially like the LAN port in bridging mode. I have another low data rate box next to this one and thus needed to run only a single cable instead of two. Which is why I chose the SPA122 over the SPA112.

This registers with sipgate no problem.
My old Zoom wouldn`t register properly with Sipgate when testing with the 10000 number. This one does 🙂
I had to connect this box direct to my PC first though as it wouldn`t let me access the spa122 interface using my browser using 192.168.0.* ect even though it was set up ok to my router.

Update: Got a replacement. Same thing. Doesn't load, doesn't respond, wait forever for the browser to connect to firewall. This is just a POS product made by Cisco. Avoid

The Access rules don;t work either. You have to set it to the default policy of allowing all outbound traffic before anything will get out.
I tried to allow certain services with default outbound set to deny and nothing gets out.
Basically the firewall portion of this device simply doesn;t work.
This was the whole reason I purchased this device.

Admittedly, the Cisco RV110W is a slight overkill for basic home usage since it was intended for small-to-medium enterprise deployment, but three immediate benefits were:
(1.) Increased bandwidth (I acquired an additional 26 Mbps - see attached photographs)
(2.) Increased range (roughly 60 feet)
(3.) Eradicated streaming TV buffering (makes for happy wife and children)
...and a far more secure network than my former Belkin wireless router offered (with the utilization of a 63-character key).
Setup was slightly more complicated than a consumer grade wireless router, but the box does contain a CD which encompasses every aspect and sequential order of the configuration. In fact, I was online with this model within twenty minutes of opening the box.

Long story short.Ignore the brand name and all that. It's not user friendly at all. When you try to set it up your computer will automaticly hate it just skip it and go on to some thing else.

The Good:
In terms of pure performance under a simple configuration, this device performs well enough. My non-scientific test achieved >600Mbps between a privately addressed node to a speed test server on the Internet. The system does support VLANs and IPv6.This is a superior router to your garden variety consumer device.
The Bad:
I should preface my critique by saying that my observations come from a former CCNA, current security professional with arguably high expectations for the device's manageability. The manufacturer could correctly respond to many of my critiques with "the feature was never promised as part of the product."These are still valid concerns.I am treating this device as both a router and a switch; an argument that this device is merely a router, not a switch, might provide a straightforward, if inadequate, defense for other of the critiques.
#1 - Missing Core Features
#1a - No way to view the MAC addresses known to ports. (ie, no "show mac-address table" equivalent)
A switch knows what MAC addresses are known to each port.A managed switch should (and even some consumer devices do) make this list available to admins to enable them to inventory the devices on the network.Without this list, an admin with an asset list can determine if a new device has attached to the network.SNMP also does not reveal this information - more on this later.
#1b - No way to inspect the arp table.(ie, no "show arp" or "arp -a" equivalent)
A router (or IP-enabled node) keeps an arp table for determining the L2 address for forwarded packets.Viewing it tells an admin what nodes are communicating to or through the router. This is such basic functionality that Windows, Linux, MacOS, and other modern OSes all provide the arp table with the same command: "arp -a".But not this router. The closest thing is the listing under "IP & MAC Binding List".But the list seems to apply only to VLAN 1, and it is not informative enough.
#2 - Missing L2 and VLAN Features
#2a - No spanning tree support.Zero.So if you have spanning-tree enabled devices and which to build layer 2 fault tolerance into your network, you're going to have to get a bit headier, since this device will be transparent. No, it wasn't a promised feature, but the same can be said about Apple network devices, which would have gotten a pass for not having this feature.
#2b - No CDP Support.LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) is supported.Maybe it's a reflection on the author, but no other LLDP devices exist on my network, but I have plenty of CDP, since I have a nearly homogeneous Cisco network. So LLDP is no help, and again, this device is a transparent entity where CDP is concerned.I would have appreciated CDP for legacy compatibility and LLDP for the future.
#3 - Problems with SNMP
I had hopes that SNMP would address my missing ARP and MAC Address Table issue...I was wrong.
Once I had the RV325 linked up with my SNMP monitoring software (Observium), my hope to address some of the shortcomings were dash.
The device presents three ethernet ports in SNMP.
eth0: this represents the whole switch. All of the IPs associated with the interface are associated with this interface, but there is no expression of VLAN information at all, as I would expect from a switch. There is no experession of subinterfaces either, which I would expect from a router. This might help explain why I see lots of "IP Redirect" messages from this device when the next hop node is not available. And there was no "no ip redirects" command to help me stop this unnecessary traffic.
eth1: This is what the Web GUI calls "WAN1".
eth2: This is what the Web GUI calls "WAN2".
Interestingly, one can get per-port traffic counters via the Web GUI.
So:
A) With the RV325, one cannot get traffic on a per-VLAN basis.
B) No MAC address table expressed via SNMP.
C) The only ARP expressed via SNMP is for WAN ports.
#4 - No OpenVPN as a client
I had hopes that I could use the device's OpenVPN functionality to create a stable VPN to a publicly addressed node.I currently do this from behind a NATed IPv4 address to tunnel static IPv6 addresses.Unfortunately, this device wants to be the server.Darn.
** There may be other ways for me to address my needs with this router. It has an impressive set of VPN options. But there is no way for me to replace the OpenVPN solution that I already have working.
#5 - More VLAN Strangeness (IPv6, DHCP)
#5a - My provider delegates a single /64 v6 network to my device. The device applies this space to VLAN 1, acting as a router and providing address assignment. There does not seem to be a way to assign this space to another VLAN.It is as though the IPv6 developers and the VLAN developers weren't talking. So you can tear up that brilliant VLAN configuration you had and start over - or worse, you could be bringing this device in to replace an existing VLAN-enabled device, only to find out that you have to make network changes to work around this limitation.Don't fret, it's only more night work.
#5b - DHCP address binding seems to work for VLAN 1, but not for other VLANs.I haven't gotten to the bottom of this, but it seems significant that the IP & Mac Binding "show unknown addresses" seems to know only of VLAN 1 unknown addresses.Perhaps it is natural that the bindings don't work anywhere else, either. But like the previous limitation, it is disappointing and removes the value of the feature.
#5c - The VLAN/port assignment screen is unnecessarily hard to manage.Cisco, you've been doing this for years. You already know this isn't good.
#6 - Firewall Rule Strangeness (yet more VLAN strangeness)
There is an option under VLANs called "Device Management" which, if disabled, prevents a device from accessing administrative features of the router. This means no Web GUI.It also means no SNMP, and probably other services for that VLAN.Changes to these settings are not reflected in firewall access rules, despite the fact that enabling the access rules will allow access to these same services. What is the real rule set? You'll never know.
#7 - Mirror Port Kills Performance
The RV325 has an option to mirror all traffic to port 1.This is awesome! But don't leave it on (like I would like to do) because it will eat your performance alive.Your performance will be measured in hundreds of Kbps.No M, no G.
The RV325 claims a good feature set, and delivers most of it.But the device behaves like siamese twins - a switch and a router, uncomfortable together. You may be happier with Cisco's enterprise-grade equipment (some of which sells for less than this device on Amazon, albeit with much less support) or that of another vendor.
For me, the device falls short.Consider the following requirements:
The network should...
- Separate guest devices, permanent user devices, IoT devices, permanent service devices (SANs, etc), and security devices (Cameras) such that they may not interfere with one another (VLANs).
- Allow for the inventory and detection of new network devices
- Support active monitoring, (SNMP, syslog, packet capture), including at the VLAN level, without interfering with overall network performance.
For a home user, this may be excessive. But for a business, it certainly should not be.And at this price point, I believe a supported solution should be available. And despite the fact that the features I desire aren't specifically advertised, I would expect another network-savvy admin to be surprised at these issues as well.
I hope you have found this writeup to be helpful.

I do not use the VLAN feature, but it is nice to know that it is an option.
The GUI is fairly straightforward, but like anything else if you don't know what you are doing then you can mess things up.Like most consumer level routers, there is a RESET button if that should happen.Unlike most consumer routers, there is no Wi-Fi.If you want wireless, you must purchase wireless access points to supplement this unit.
This particular purchase is going into a more volatile environment, so I will revise my review over the next couple of months if it starts behaving badly. If this is May 2017 and the review has not been revised, then I stand by the above review.

I have only been at it for a few hours, but it started off ugly right away. I tried changing the DHCP range from 192.168.1.100 through 149 to 200 through 249. As soon as I entered the lower limit, I got an error window about the range being invalid. Every time I hit OK, the error repeated, with no opportunity to change either the upper or lower limit. I had to exit my browser, log in again and then changed the upper limit first. I also updated to the latest firmware.
When I changed to the 10.0.0.1 subnet, I was surprised to find I could still only set the LAN to /24 through /30. No /16 subnet support.
The VLAN support may as well be nonexistent. Each port can be set to VLAN1,2,3 or 4. No tagged/untagged membership controls. No control of the LAN address per VLAN. No control of DHCP per VLAN. Firewall rules only seemed to support LAN vs WAN, with no obvious way to enable or control any traffic between VLANs. [Update 20130808 Since no VLAN tagged frames seem to go in or out of the box, the implementation feels more like they are just providing up to 4 subnets, not 4 VLANs. Of course, you would expect to be able to set different addresses on each port if they called them subnets.]
Control of IPV6 transition tunneling is a single 6to4 enable checkbox with no other parameters to set up my IPV6 tunnel to Hurricane Electric.
Throughput is good enough for my FIOS 50/25 mbps connection, although I've seen other reviews indicate that the unit tops out at a little more than 100 mbps when used as a firewall. Benchmarks quoted in the 700 mbps range were apparently performed using the DMZ port with no firewall or NAT involved.
DHCP clients (static or dynamic) show up by name in forward DNS, but have no reverse DNS entries. Puppet server is not getting names to associate with the numeric IP addresses of clients.
Update after a week:
Throughput has been very solid, with no reboots or hang-ups. A small business with no need for VLANs or subnets would probably find this to be a fast and reliable unit. Many advanced features listed in the CISCO spec sheet are simply not usable.
Update at 2 weeks:
One more broken feature, SNMP returns a zero value for the sysObjectID, so monitoring tools like OpenNMS can not match the RV042G's detailed replies to any known MIB to extract throughput and other metrics.

I purchased the RV042G because it offers gigabit connectivity and two WAN ports coupled with customer service that is miles better than the usual phone tree/call center BS that you get with most consumer grade network gear(including Cisco/Linksys home products). I'm an AT&T U-verse customer and while their service is good, it's not quite quick enough (12mbps) for my family of iPad/netflix/HBOgo addicts. So the ability to put the router in "load balancing" mode and add on a cable modem to give us extra bandwidth was the biggest reason for the upgrade. There is no wireless on this router and for me that's perfect, could be a drawback for some.
Setup was very straight forward. I didn't even use the "set up wizard". Just changed a few settings through the web interface and it was online in a jiffy. It's probably not as easy as the setup on a typical home unit (ie. airport or Cisco Connect), so a little knowledge of protocols and ports is needed. There are not a lot of parental type controls on the unit. You can block specific domains and key words but I haven't seen any MAC or IP based filtering options in the menus yet, but I wouldn't really expect that given the intended audience for this unit. I'm not using the VPN functions right now, so I can't comment on those. There is only one thing I've found that seemed like an odd limitation of this unit. The DHCP server is limited to 50 clients, additional IP's would have to be assigned static. Overall, I'm really happy with the unit.
One last thing. Since this item is not available from Amazon proper, be careful who you buy it from. My first purchase was from Amazon seller "Nu Image". Waited more than a week for the unit and when it arrived, it was destroyed. They shipped it USPS packaged only in a plastic bag. They promised me an expedited replacement but days went by and nothing till Amazon issued a refund. When I asked about my replacement, I was told to just start over and order another one. I reordered from Amazon seller "The Nerds". Router was shipped via Fedex and was at my door (packed in a proper box) in 2 days and was cheaper to boot.
UPDATE 10-12-12:
In my previous review I said that I hadn't found a way to set parental controls or do IP based filtering.I have since discovered how this is done on this router. There is not a parental settings page or anything like that but under the firewall option in the menu, you can set "access rules" till your heart is content. As with the basic set up of the unit, some knowledge of TCP/IP ports and services is required to get this set up. Mine is now configured to disallow traffic to my kid's ipods, Nindendo's and TV's after bed time.
I'm still very happy with this unit. Every function I have set up has worked great, even Xbox Live and in game chat have no NAT issues at all (port forwarding required.

These little firewalls are capable and easy to use with more features than I need yet a price I can't complain about.
My only beef is I wish I could justify buying one for my home.
I have not used the load balancing feature.
They have worked well for me with modest firewall rule sets and no downtime.
I have installed two of them remotely connected using a VPN tunnel to a SonicWall 3060.The only issues I had were the networks in between. The documentation could have been more helpful in the setup, but the continued operation was far more important to me.
I like the passive cooling design with no fan to fail.At least I think they are passive, I have not had any heat problems in more than 3 years of operation. The SonicWall they were connected two however failed due to heat issues, hence the purchase of another.

They broke something.
I with the last one that I bought there were changes made. The firmware is different, and it's performance is notably different. While the device is functional in terms of routing traffic, they user interface is severely broken. It works fine to get things setup, but once it has been running for a while, you can no longer log in to manage it.Each time I need to make a change or look at logs, I have to reboot the device. The UI will then work again for a short period, but eventually return to a broken state.
There are also erroneous errors reported in the logs.Do some googling about this device before you purchase. It is definitely showing it's age.I hope someone provides a good alternative soon.I purchased a SOHO router that seems to be much faster than this and has wireless.Unfortunately, it lacks some of the features of this router, such as dual WAN (I don't use dual wan and checking forums will show that those who have tried had great difficulty).

My new ZyWall USG 50 was functioning perfectly for a week, and tech support even answered e-mails. However, my cable modem went bad, so I cannot be 100% sure the the problems that I had were related to the RV042. Needless to say, the ZyWall has a superior interface, and I do appreciate at how they provide support, rather than a phone number that just disconnects you after you are on hold for some time, and a website for which it's not easy to simply send an e-mail to support with the S/N.
I raised the review to 2 stars to indicate that the product might work, and given that it's the least expensive for what it claims to do.
----------------------
I just got the product today and spent way too much time trying to make the most basic functionality work. I am thoroughly puzzled as to why I cannot get the RV042 to recognize my cable ethernet connection, while it recognizes the dsl connection just fine. I tested the cable connection and it works fine connected directly to a laptop. The system summary page only shows 0.0.0.0 for the cable modem. The Release and Renew buttons are there when the wire is connected, so I know the router sees the wire. I even wasted lots of time upgrading to the latest firmware and resetting to factory settings, both of which just wasted lots of time. i then tried to open a support ticket with Cisco, but that is not easy, as I spend tons of time registering, and to enter a support ticket, I have to register again! and the system does not recognize me. It is amazing how much time this router has cost me. So right now, the router does not do anything more than my existing wireless router for me. If I can't get this feature to work, I'm returning this product.
To make matters worse, I must have tried for 30 minutes to create a support account, and I finally just got this message:

So, I ordered a Netgear Dual Wan to see if that works any better. Scratch, going to try the "ZyXEL ZyWALL USG50 Internet Security Firewall with Dual-WAN, 4 Gigabit LAN/DMZ Ports, 5 IPSec VPN, SSL VPN, and 3G WAN Support".
I found some tech support conversation that recommended lowering the MTU and disabling the SPI, and, arghhh....nothing. Just wasted more time.
So I'm trying to call the special amazon toll free number (800) 814-0180. Just holding, holding, and then disconnected. Arghh....3 times!
Next day, I try again. And it seems like unplugging the cable modem and unplugging the router, and making sure the MTU is manually set at 1492, and it gets an IP address, and the speed seems decent. It's not quite as fast as a direct connection to the cable modem (maybe 80%), but it's a fair bit faster than the DSL line. OK. I cancelled my order for the USG50 and give the cisco one a try.
Then a couple days later, my Internet connection is again wonky! No matter what I do, I can't get the RV042 to recognize the cable modem. Several hours of trying to get it recognize it fails again, and the address never goes to anything other than 0.0.0.0.
Sure, the problem could be my cable modem, or maybe there is some magical configuration needed.

Once I get the ZyWall USG50, I'll be able to compare it. Today, I tried not only turning off the cable modem but also unplugging the cable, and then I turned on the cable modem, waited for all lights to go green, and then connected the cable to the rv042, and it worked! Very puzzling. Note, I did not turn off the rv042. Also, it seems like the rv042 would definitely detect the cable when it displayed 0.0.0.0, but release and renew never did anything. Then, a day later, the rv042 again lost the cable connection again.

One caveat though - since Cisco took linksys over they have managed to thoroughly mess it up by trying to upgrade the admin page.
Issues -
1. Firewall doesn't work at all anymore. It used to work like a charm before - and its a huge issue with the router.
2. Browser doesn't save the admin page password anymore so each time you will need to put in your password. Problem for me since we intend to keep it safe so quite a long password
In short the previous release of this router under linksys worked far better then the newer version from cisco. they have managed to mess it up throughly.

1. If one uplink goes down, it automatically switches over to the next.
2. If one Uplink starts to choke, routes additional traffic to the next.
Using it since almost 8 months now. Once setup, haven't touched it again. Robust Cisco quality.

There are few "nice to have" features which I would have liked to see in the software, but all core requirements are met cost effecively.

Pros:
Easy to configure
Good support in cisco community.
Compact
Loadbalancing or failover works of WAN works well.
Cons:
Limitations on number of IPs. It supports only 255.255.255.0 subnet or lower. If you have plan to increase your IPs more than 250+, you will hit this limitations.
